Kauai is known for its miles of white sand beaches and crystal clear water.
Just down at the end of Ka Haku Road, near the Princeville Hotel, is Pu’u Poa Beach, best for swimming in the summer when the surf is low. Its 191-step staircase will give you a good work-out, too! Head south about 2 miles and you’ll find Anini Beach, a very safe and shallow beach with a fringing reef. Windsurfing lessons are available here.
Hanalei Bay, 3 miles to the north, is one of the premier beaches in Hawaii with a 2-mile stretch of powder-soft white sand and four different beach parks. A great place to surf, swim, picnic, and relax after a morning of shopping in Hanalei Town.
Ah, golf on Kauai! If you’d like to play golf, you needn’t go far to two of the world’s most spectacular courses, both designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The Prince Golf Course, named for Prince Albert, son of Hawaii’s King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, is a challenging course which offers 5 different tees at each hole so you can customize your game. The Makai Golf Course is 18 holes and 9 holes which provide golfers of all skill levels with a variety of challenges and spectacular Kauai views.
If you can tear yourself away from the north shore, there are many other golf courses on the island, from the Wailua Municipal Golf Course and Kauai Lagoons near Lihue to Poipu Bay Golf Course, the former home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, on the south side.
"We go annually and feel the Cliff's has the best location and we enjoy it hands down. The location is great, on a cliffside and spectacular views. Best to sit in Adirondack chair with coffee in the morning to see the sunrise and a beverage in the evening to watch the sunset. "
"We spent 4 days at the Cliffs at Princeville and we enjoyed every moment of it. Our 1-BR condominium was spacious, clean and well-furnished. It had a partial ocean view. We enjoyed having breakfast in the balcony with a view of the ocean."
"Very well-run resort!! Friendly staff, nice location, plenty of onsite activities, excellent floor plan! Not air-conditioned -- but the trade winds keep you cool all the time! We really hope that we can return someday."
